The Guam Environmental Protection Agency (Guam EPA) will have a meeting with shipping companies, freight forwarders and airline cargo handlers to discuss proper shipping and importation protocols for pesticides.
"Illegal pesticide importation can bring unregistered chemicals to our island which have the potential to affect our air, land and water," said Guam EPA Administrator Lorilee T. Crisostomo. "Guam EPA's Pesticide Enforcement Program has been working with other agencies to stem this problem."
This meeting was prompted by an increase in the illegal importation of pesticides to the island. The Office of Homeland Security, Guam Civil Defense and Guam Customs and Quarantine will also be in attendance at the meeting.
The meeting will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 26, at Guam EPA's main conference room in Tiyan.
Those interested in attending the meeting should confirm their attendance with Betwin Alokoa or Karl Olson of Guam EPA's Pesticide Enforcement Program. They can be reached at 475-1607 or emailed at Betwin.Alokoa@guamepa.net or Karl.Olson@guamepa.net.
