Guam EPA releases updated Recycling Guide

2007 Guam Recycling Guide

The Guam Environmental Protection Agency (Guam EPA) today released the updated version of the Guam Recycling Guide.

The Guam Recycling Guide includes a listing of companies that are permitted to accept recyclable waste, including all types of paper, batteries, aluminum cans and cardboard. Guam EPA compiles and publishes the Recycling Guide every year to encourage residents to recycle their waste instead of bringing it to the Ordot dump.

"It is critical that everyone on Guam begin separating their waste and recycling," said Guam EPA Administrator Lorilee T. Crisostomo. "If everyone made an effort to recycle, we could significantly decrease the amount of trash we produce and turn our waste into a resource."

Residents can recycle at home or at the office by separating waste and creating bins for white paper, colored paper, newspaper, aluminum cans and other recyclable materials. Guam does not currently have curbside pickup so residents must deliver their recyclable materials to the appropriate company.

The Guam Recycling Guide lists each company, the type of waste they accept, contact number and hours of operation. Some facilities pay money for these items while others collect the waste for free. Some companies may charge depending on the type of waste. Residents are encouraged to contact the companies for specific details.

The Guide is available in the front section of each phone book. It can also be downloaded at www.guamepa.net. For a hard copy of the Recycling Guide visit Guam EPA's offices in Tiyan across from the former Department of Revenue and Taxation.

Guam EPA also offers free signage to those who recycle at their home or office. The signs can be used on bins for specific types of recyclable waste including aluminum cans, white paper, newspaper, magazines and cardboard. These signs can be obtained at Guam EPA's main office or by emailing Tammy.Anderson@guamepa.net.

For more information about recycling visit U.S. EPA's site about recycling.
