The Guam Environmental Protection Agency (Guam EPA) is encouraging the public to get involved with cleanup events this month to help celebrate Earth Week 2008!.
The following cleanup events have been scheduled.
✔ 1 p.m. Saturday, April 5 - Agaņa Springs beautification project
✔ 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday April 12 - Marbo Cave cleanup event
✔ 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 19 - Cache In, Trash Out Geocaching
event at Tanguisson Beach Park
✔ 8:30 a.m. Sunday, April 20 - Micronesian Divers Association (MDA)
boat dive/reef cleanup launching out of Agat marina. There are less than
20 spots available on this for this single-tank boat dive. There is a
$5 registration charge. To sign up for the dive call MDA at 472-6321 or
visit their Web site.
Bags and gloves will be provided but volunteers are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles. Lunch will be provided by MDA on Saturday April 12. There will be food at the Cache In, Trash Out event provided by the Geocachers of Guam. To see a schedule of events for the Geocaching event visit their Web site.
The cleanups are coordinated by Guam EPA in partnership with MDA, Guam Department of Agriculture, Geocachers of Guam, Department of Parks and Recreation and other agencies.
The theme for this year's Earth Week celebration is "Conserve Our Reef Environment." There are many activities throughout the month of April to help promote coral reef conservation.
Guam EPA will celebrate April 19 - 26 as Earth Week 2008! and conclude the celebration with the annual Island Pride Festival at Ypao Beach Park. The Festival is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 26.
