The Guam Environmental Protection Agency (Guam EPA) today announced the winners of the Earth Week 2008! Environmental Education and Awareness Contests.
The winners of the elementary school 3-D artwork contest are as follows:
✔ Grade 1
1st place - St. Anthony School
✔ Grade 2
1st place - St. Anthony School
2nd place - St. Paul Christian School
✔ Grade 3
1st place - St. Anthony School
2nd place - Bishop Baumgartner Memorial
✔ Grade 4
1st place - St. Anthony School
2nd place - Southern Christian Academy
3rd place - Bishop Baumgartner Memorial
4th place - Guam Adventist Academy
✔ Grade 5
1st place - Our Lady of Mount Carmel School
2nd place - St. Anthony School
3rd place - Santa Barbara School
4th place - Bishop Baumgartner Memorial
First place winners will receive a $50 gift certificate for school supplies and a pizza party for the class. Second and third place winners will receive a $25 gift certificate for school supplies, as well as Haagen-Dazs ice cream for their class. Fourth place winners will receive a $15 gift certificate for school supplies and Haagen-Dazs ice cream for their class.
The winners of the middle school banner contest and awards are as follows:
✔ 1st place - F. B. Leon Guerrero Middle School - $1,500 Cash
✔ 2nd place - Southern Christian Academy - $1,000 Cash
✔ 3rd place - Trinity Christian School - $500 Cash
✔ 4th place - St. Francis Catholic School - $250 Gift Certificates
✔ 5th place - San Vicente Catholic School - $250 Gift Certificates
The winners of the high school photography contest and awards are as follows:
✔ 1st place Gavin McManus, 9th grade, Southern Christian Academy - $900 Value Digital Camera
✔ 2nd place Caleb Sablan, 10th grade, Southern Christian Academy - $600 Value Digital Camera
✔ 3rd place Kelcy-Love Manglona, 9th grade, Notre Dame High School - $350 Value Digital Camera
✔ 4th place Danielle Cabaccang, 9th grade, Southern Christian Academy - $50 Gift Certificate
✔ 5th place Anjelica Bamba, 10th grade, Notre Dame High School - $50 Gift Certificate
Winners of all the contests will be honored at the annual Island Pride Festival at Ypao Beach Park. The Festival is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 26.
These contests are part of this year's Earth Week celebration. The theme for Earth Week 2008! is "Conserve Our Reef Environment." There are many activities throughout the month of April to help promote coral reef conservation.
