About the Program
A Guam EPA contractor disposes of material collected during Hasso Guam.
| The Hasso Guam household hazardous waste collection event collects household hazardous materials for proper disposal.
| In December 1998, Public Law 24-304 created the Hazardous Waste Management Program. The Program is responsible for permitting hazardous waste collection and treatment, storage, and disposal facilities. In addition, the Program is responsible for inspection, compliance monitoring, enforcement and corrective action on all hazardous waste-related activities, underground storage tanks, CERCLA, TSCA (specifically PCBs) and emergency response.
The Hasso Guam! Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program is also a component of the Hazardous Waste Management Program. The theme "Hasso Guam!" translates from the Chamorro phrase, "Think of Guam." The program began in 1991 and has since collected over 8000 lead acid (car) batteries, over 3000 gallons of used paint, and over 5500 gallons of used oil. After collection, Guam EPA safely disposes of the materials to prevent them from contaminating soils or groundwater. The next collection dates and times will be announced on this web site.
For more information about household hazardous waste, consult Guam EPA's What To Do With Household Hazardous Waste. For more information on the Hasso Guam! Program, see the summary report (PDF, 44K) prepared by Conchita Taitano and Steven Bellrichard for the 17th Annual Pacific Islands Environmental Conference in 1998.
Hazardous Waste Report Forms and Instructions
Generators of hazardous waste on Guam are required to submit an annual report to the Guam EPA Hazardous Waste Management Program. Forms and instructions for 2006 and 2007 can be downloaded here.
